Holiday Gifts

Holiday Gifts Say Something About Your Business. Order Them Before the Rush.

Every December, businesses send gifts to clients, staff, and partners. The ones people remember are the ones that arrive on time, look sharp, and carry a logo that is printed the way it should be. The ones people forget, or remember for the wrong reasons, are almost always the ones ordered too late.

Corporate gifting is also one of the first places a rushed timeline shows. Imported promotional items take longer than expected, popular apparel sizes sell out, and decoration quality suffers when a production schedule is compressed. With midOctober behind us, the window to plan well is still open, but it is closing.

Why timing matters more than budget

Most gifting problems are not budget problems. They are calendar problems. A strong product ordered at the end of October can still be proofed, adjusted, and produced without pressure. The same product ordered in late November competes with every other business doing the same thing, and the decisions get made for you: whatever is in stock, whatever can ship in time, whatever fits the shortened window. Moving now is the most direct way to protect quality.

What to settle this week

  1. Client gifts. Decide on a budget, a recipient list, and a product that reflects your brand. Items that get used daily, like drinkware, notebooks, and quality tote bags, keep your name in front of people long after the holidays. Think about who is receiving the gift. A long-standing key account and a new prospect may call for different levels.
  2. Branded apparel. Toques, jackets, and hoodies make strong staff and client gifts in an Edmonton winter. Confirm sizing and quantities quickly, since reorders are slow and popular sizes run out first. Ask about decoration methods too. Embroidery suits jackets and caps, while screen printing and heat transfer suit other garments, and the right choice affects both look and durability.
  3. Staff gifts and uniforms. Year-end recognition lands better when it arrives before the holidays, not after. If your team is growing or you are refreshing uniforms for the new year, combining both orders can save on setup.
  4. Packaging and presentation. Custom boxes, cards, and branded wrapping turn a good gift into a memorable one. They also add production time, so they should be part of the plan from the start rather than an afterthought.
  5. Direct mail and holiday cards. Printed greetings stand out in a season when inboxes are full. A handwritten signature on a well-printed card still carries weight with clients, and mailing windows are fixed, so the print date needs to work backward from the mail date.
  6. Promotional products for events. Year-end open houses, client appreciation events, and January kickoffs all need materials. Ordering these alongside your gifts keeps branding consistent across everything you hand out.

Keep your branding consistent

A gift with a logo that is slightly off in colour or placement works against you. Send final artwork right away, confirm your brand colours, and review proofs before approving production. This is especially important if you are ordering across several product types, since a logo that looks right on a mug may need adjusting for embroidery or a pen barrel.

What to look for in a print partner

Choosing a partner for this work is about trust. A good one confirms proofs before anything is produced, tells you honestly what can and cannot be done by your date, and makes sure every item reflects well on you. If a supplier promises everything without asking questions, treat that as a warning sign.

A realistic timeline from here

  • Late October: Choose products, set quantities, and send artwork. Imported and custom items need this window.
  • Early November: Approve proofs and confirm sizes. Packaging and specialty items should be locked in.
  • Mid to late November: Production and delivery, with time left for corrections.
  • Early December: Distribute gifts and mail cards, rather than scrambling to finish them. Anything still unordered by this point is limited to in-stock and quick-turn options.
